Choose from the extensive menu at The George - With home cooked local food with a modern twist, they are passionate & proud to support local farmers & local food producers and use the very best fresh seasonal local produce wherever possible, even growing their salads and herbs in the hotel’s kitchen garden.

We have a large restaurant available, or you can eat in the snug or bar areas from the extensive á la carte menu. The menu is varied and offers a wide selection to cover all tastes and budgets. We also have on offer the chef’s specials, offering even more choices of local food

Situated in the Lake District in the centre of Keswick, The George is one of the oldest hotels in the Lake District and Keswick, built in 1665. The impression of the 350-year history of the Inn is indisputable, in the heavily beamed rooms it retains all of the character you would expect from this traditional Inn. The bar is the perfect place for a quiet drink of the local Jennings cask ales, alongside cozy fires, which glow through winter nights. The wine list is extensive, and we offer ten different wines by the glass. The George also provides excellent home-cooked local food and has twelve guest bedrooms for those planning a stay in this beautiful area.

  • When we arrived the place was full but they managed to find a table for us The food and service was excellent in fact it was that good we booked a table for the following night. On both nights the food was well prepared and plenty of it. The service second to none. Speciality is the cow pie but it's not for the faint hearted.

  • We go to the lakes at least 3 times a year and we always make a point of eating in here, it's a must. The pub itself is oldy worldy and very inviting, the beer is excellent but the food, I'll be honest and say, as tasty as it looks, I'm scared of that cow pie, there's loads on the plate even if you just get half but I'm going to give in one day and have it. Whatever you order, it's always fantastic, fish and chips and (lush chips) Lamb George are superb. It's usually very busy during peak seasons and I would advise anyone to book a table but if anyone calls in and there's no table available, it's worth the wait if there will be one becoming available

  • We were recommended to the George Hotel by a couple we met on a walk. "You have to try their legendary pies", they said. I (the female of the couple) chose the half portion of cow pie and my husband went for a vegetarian option. The fact that you can choose a half a pie suggested these were going to be of gigantic proportions and I wasn't wrong - layer upon layer of tender beef encased in shortcrust pastry, served with chips (you can have mash instead) and seasonal vegetables. Delicious.
